Good Thursday morning, McClain County. We continue to monitor the potential for widespread, and possibly high-impact, severe weather this afternoon and evening across much of Oklahoma. Thunderstorms are expected to form across western Oklahoma during the early afternoon hours and approach central OK, including McClain County, during the early evening - most likely between 5 pm and 8 pm. All hazards will be possible with these thunderstorms including large hail, tornadoes, and very heavy rainfall.

 A few preparedness tips:

  • *Keep up with further forecast updates and adjustments from the SPC or NWS OUN.
  • *Ensure that you have a way to receive watch and warning notifications during the evening hours.
  • *Plan for evening into overnight severe weather operations.
  • *Consider changing evening plans or ensure that you have a shelter location if you will be away from home.
  • *Charge devices and ensure that your home shelter location is cleared out and equipped for your needs.
  • *Think about your pets.
  • *Do not rely on social media as your primary means of receive warning information.
  • *If you live in a mobile home, or have family or friends that live in a mobile home, take time now to develop a plan for where to go – no part of a mobile home is safe in a tornado.

Above all, the best advice is to stay weather aware today and be ready to take action if a storm moves toward your area.
